Fly American from Raleigh to Denver

It was a dark and stormy night - not exactly what one would coin as the "best time to book" a flight. But, my dear reader, there I was. Staring at the ominous glow of my computer screen, mouse hovering over the "confirm booking" button like a predatory bird circling its prey. My destination: Denver, from the verdant land of Raleigh in North Carolina - courtesy of none other than our very own national aviatrix, American Airlines.

Among the blizzard of flight options that littered my screen - domestic flights, international flights (not that I needed them on my inward journey), direct flights, connecting flights - my eyes honed in on the glaring detail: a one-way ticket. Nevertheless, my spirits were not dampened. Encouraged by the promise of on-board amenities often associated with in-flight services, I hit the 'confirm' button with a newfound determination. Here one could experience the finest culinary offerings at thirty-five thousand feet and a menagerie of in-flight entertainment to wile away the seemingly never-ending minutes of a layover induced flight duration.

What marvel, indeed, that in this era of technological prowess, one could enjoy such luxuries in the sky. Economy class, premium economy, first-class - all mere pawns in the grand scheme of class voyeurism proffered by the aviation industry. It would be a sin to not mention, however, the baggage allowance. Oh, how American Airlines was considerate enough to allow two bags, ensuring I could pack my favorite 'War and Peace' hardcopy without any trepidation.

As I navigated this labyrinth of air travel, I couldn't help but chuckle at the brilliant charade of it all. Flight deals, red-eye flight, last-minute flights, the superficial hierarchy of classes, the deceit of cheap flights; all part of a wonderfully playful tapestry, weaving tales of adventure and wanderlust. Loved and hated in equal measure by the frequent flyer fraternity, ever seeking to boost mileage program points, American Airlines didn't fail to entertain me that stormy night of booking.
